Teaching Strategies' Resources

To improve the ability of the teachers to communicate with students and therefore to the students to interact with the teachers, we will suggest many good resources on the different facets of teacher / student interaction:

Describes the importance of building rapport with students. Lists four factors that help an instructor develop rapport with students, as well as strategies for improving teacher performance in these areas.

First-year students are the most vulnerable group. This paper focuses on first-year students and what faculty can do to increase the likelihood that they will persist beyond the first year and attain their educational and personal goals.

Inclusive classrooms are classrooms in which instructors and students work together to create and sustain an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and encouraged to express his or her views and concerns. This paper provides guidance to instructors who seek to teach in more inclusive ways.

Sometimes things seem to explode in the classroom, and what do we do then? Knowing strategies for turning difficult encounters into learning opportunities enables you to address important, but hot, topics -- religion, politics, race, class, gender -- in your classroom discussions.

Interacting via social media

To read the article entitled “Five Tips for Faculty on Interacting with Students via Social Media” click here and you will find interesting tips about how faculty should interact with students using social media.

Thinking Together: Collaborative Learning in Science

Thinking Together features three distinct models of collaborative learning -- a large introductory physics lecture, a small class in celestial navigation, and a section in physical chemistry -- filmed at Harvard. In each course, students discuss problems and devise solutions with the help of their instructors and peers. The results are greater student engagement and greater depth of learning.

Books

The 2 suggested books are books that we found interested... Once you click on their title, you can consult a big part of them and decide whether you would like to get it or not!

The first one is titled: Interactive Language Teaching. It is a book where you can find a collection of essays made by a distinguished group of innovative teachers and writers. They are describing the approaches and techniques they have incorporated into their own teaching. The articles are designed to help classroom teachers make language classes more participatory and communication oriented.

The second one is oriented toward the primary teachers. Interactive teaching in the primary school: digging deeper into meanings is the story of an exciting research project done by a group of tutors and teachers. Their key questions were the following: What is 'interactive teaching' in primary classrooms? What do primary teachers and children do to interact effectively? Are there benefits in such interactions to both teaching and learning?

Teaching and Technology

"Why use technologies in education?", "Teaching and Technology: Can the Two Survive Together?"
All these questions can be answered by introducing the new interactive teaching technologiesNowadays, with these technologies the class is becoming very more attractive, to the student AND to the teacher.
